Country Coach

Throughout the history of the team’s wins a woman by the name of Pat Head Summit has been at the helm. And it is no wonder. Pat has been coaching for 35 seasons. She has coached the Lady Vols to 8 national championships and 14 South Eastern Conference (SEC) titles. All of the athletes she has coached have graduated from college, a notable academic achievement.

Pat Head-Summit's Love For The Game Started Early

Pat Head fell in love with basketball when she was a young girl growing up in Henrietta, Tennessee. It was her brothers and her father who helped to inspire her love for the sport. Her father moved the family to another school district so that Pat could play basketball in high school since the county where the family initially lived did not have girls’ basketball teams.

As she began to play on the girl’s team, Pat’s passion for the sport grew. After she graduated in 1970, she played basketball for the University of Tennessee-Martin and on the United States Olympic team.
